Saudi Arabia Admits that Journalist Jamal Khashoggi Died during Interrogation

Saudi Arabia is prepared to admit that journalist Jamal Khashoggi died in an interrogation after entering the consulate of his country in Istanbul, according to reports on Monday several US media, including CNN, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.

The American television network speaks of “two sources” who say that “the Saudis are preparing a report that recognizes that the death of Jamal Khashoggi was the result of an interrogation that went wrong, one that was trying to kidnap him from Turkey.” According to one of the sources that CNN manages, the Saudis supposedly will inform that the operation was carried out “without authorization and transparency” and that those who were involved ”

Asked during a visit to the State of Georgia on one of these news reports, the US president, Donald Trump, responded that “nobody knows” if this is official, according to Reuters. Hours earlier, Trump speculated that the journalist’s killers could have acted freely.

According to the Times and the Journal , the guilty plea “opens a window” to the Saudi monarchy to defend that the murder would have nothing to do with the royal family, “a theory commented by a person close to the Saudi plans to kick the blame an intelligence officer and thus protect Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Salman . ”

The trail of the journalist, critical of the current government of his country and especially with the crown prince, has been lost since last October 2, when he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to carry out a procedure for his marriage. Khashoggi, 59, fled last year to the United States fearing for his safety in the Arab country.

Turkey claims to have proof that Khashoggi was killed and dismembered when he went to the Saudi consulate. Saudi Arabia denies it but has barely given explanations about where the reporter is, who was a columnist for The Washington Post.

According to that newspaper, the US intercepted talks by Saudi officials in which they talked about how the crown prince ordered an operation to set a trap for Khashoggi in order to arrest him and transfer him to Saudi Arabia. Washington suspects that the operation, executed by a team of 15 people displaced to Istanbul, was not executed as planned.

In addition, according to the Post, the Turkish authorities would have sent evidence to the US intelligence services. “The audio recordings from within expose what happened to Jamal Khashoggi after entering. You can hear his voice and the voice of men speaking in Arabic. You can hear how he was interrogated, tortured and murdered, “Turkish and US sources quoted by the newspaper said last Friday.
